Twins who attacked Worajet get jail term
The Dusit District Court yesterday handed down a six-month jail term to twin brothers who attacked Nitirat group member Worajet Pakeerat last week.
Supat and Supot Silarat, 30, admitted assaulting the academic in the parking lot of the Tha Phrachan campus of Thammasat University on Feb 29.
The court sentenced them to six months in prison but reduced the jail term by half due to their confession.
The twins turned themselves in to police on March 1.
They claimed to be angry with Mr Worajet's campaign to amend Section 112 of the Criminal Code, known as the lese majeste law.
The court added another four months to Supot's term, as he had received a seven-month suspended prison sentence in 2010 for violating the Firearms Act.
Both were released on bail yesterday, pending an appeal. Their family posted cash of 50,000 baht as bail surety for each of them.
Army commander Prayuth Chan-ocha yesterday denied reports the twins had served as army rangers.
He was responding to a report the twin brothers used ranger identification cards to apply for firearm licences.
